Job summary

Total Safety is seeking a Non-DOT Driver to operate a commercial truck and various trailers, delivering equipment to job sites and customers while adhering to DOT regulations. The role emphasizes safety and proper documentation, inspections, and basic vehicle care.

Responsibilities

  • Provides timely delivery and pickup to and from designated customer locations.
  • Inspects equipment for damage and/or excessive wear during pickup.
  • Completes all delivery/pickup documentation and obtains customer signature for invoicing.
  • Performs basic maintenance and weekly inspections of assigned vehicles.
  • Assists with stocking shelves and loading customer orders onto trucks.
  • May perform emergency roadside repairs.

Job description

Total Safety is looking for a Non-DOT Driver to join their safety conscious team! The Non-DOT Driver Drives a commercial truck and a variety of trailers to pick up, haul and unload equipment and supplies to and from job sites and customer locations. Complies with current DOT regulations.

Essential Duties
  • Provides timely delivery and pick-up to and from designated customer locations. Makes changes, and records transactions on field tickets.
  • When picking up equipment, inspects for damage and/or excessive wear and notes accordingly.
  • Completes all documentation associated with delivery and pickup in a timely and accurate manner and obtains signature from customer so that proper invoicing and documentation can be provided to customer.
  • Performs basic maintenance and care of assigned vehicle and/or trailer. Performs regular inspections, not less than weekly of all assigned vehicles to insure that all required safety and preventative maintenance measures have been executed and documented.
  • Assists others in facility including stocking shelves with clean, tested and ready to use equipment and pulling, staging and loading customer orders onto trucks for delivery. Maintains work area and other areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Assists others as needed. May need to perform emergency roadside repairs.
Qualifications
  • Forklift experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license (non-CDL) from state of residence and valid proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Must possess good driving record and be insurable for Total Safety vehicle insurance while driving company truck.
  • Must pass internal forklift training and certification.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to pull, stage and load customer orders for delivery.
  • Ability to perform basic cleaning and maintenance on vehicle and trailers and basic roadside repair in an emergency.
  • Must quickly become proficient in the care and use of all site specific, facility and customer required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions).
  • Ability to complete routine reports and shipping/delivery paperwork.
  • Second language is a plus.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily. Some contact with other facility personnel to furnish and obtain information.
  • Customer contact. Must use courtesy and tact.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. Uses hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Shop, yard, traffic and customer environments. May be frequently exposed to wet, humid weather conditions and vibration. Shop, plant and highway traffic. High pressure, chemicals, shop traffic. The noise level in work environment is usually moderate.

Reporting Relationships

Complexity of Duties and Decisions: Duties involve the use of several procedures or processes and generally have predetermined standards. Uses some judgement to arrange job details in order to achieve pre-determined objectives. Requires some ability to analyze and resolve problems. May suggest process improvements.

Authority: Direct supervision: Specific instructions are given on assignments or follows written or verbal instructions and established procedures and standard practice to perform assigned tasks.
