Job summary

Total Safety is seeking a DOT Driver to join our safety-conscious team in Texas. The role involves operating a commercial truck and various trailers to load, haul, and unload equipment and supplies to multiple job sites and customer locations.

Cross-trained in air work, gas detection, and rescue services; candidate must comply with DOT regulations and maintain a clean driving record. Responsibilities include documentation, safety inspections, and equipment maintenance as required by FMCSR.

Qualifications

• Must have at least 12 months verifiable DOT driving experience within the last three years.
• Valid DOT medical examiner's certificate with a minimum of 3 months prior to expiration.
• Commercial driver’s license class A, B, or C with HazMat endorsement.
• Must comply with current DOT regulations and maintain insurability.

Responsibilities

• Refers to safety and operations checklists of steps to be followed for each trailer type and follows checklist before each haul.
• Provides timely delivery and pickup to and from designated customer locations.
• When picking up equipment, inspect for damage and excessive wear and note accordingly.
• Complies with current DOT regulations including timely qualification renewals, inspections, ELDs, and other transport documentation.
• Completes documentation for delivery/pickup and obtains customer signature for invoicing.
• Performs basic maintenance and care of assigned vehicle/trailer.
• Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections as required by FMCSR on all CMVs and trailers.
• Performs weekly inspections on non-DOT trucks to ensure safety measures are documented.
• Maintains clean and orderly work areas and assists with stocking/loading customer orders.

Cross trained in air work, gas detection, and rescue services. Complies with current DOT regulations.

Essential Duties

• Refers to the safety and operations checklists of steps to be followed for each trailer type to be pulled and follows checklist before each haul. Completes DOT and company-required documentation.
• Provides timely delivery and pick-up to and from designated customer locations.
• When picking up equipment, inspect for damage and/or excessive wear and note accordingly.
• Complies with current DOT regulations including timely qualification renewals, equipment and cargo security inspections, electronic logging devices, and other required transport documentation.
• Completes all documentation associated with delivery and pickup in a timely and accurate manner and obtains signature from customer so that proper invoicing and documentation can be provided to customer.
• Performs basic maintenance and care of assigned vehicle and/or trailer.
• Performs pre-trip, post-trip, and ad-hoc equipment inspections as required by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) on all commercial motor vehicles and trailers.
• Performs weekly inspections on all non-DOT assigned trucks and trailers to ensure that all required safety and preventative maintenance measures have been executed and documented.
• Assists others in facility including stocking shelves with clean, tested, and ready to use equipment and pulling, staging, and loading customer orders onto trucks for delivery.
• Maintains work area and other areas in a clean and orderly condition.
• Servicing customers and/or company owned electronics and respiratory equipment.
• Assists others as needed. May need to perform emergency roadside repairs.

Skills and Experience

Must possess at least 12 months of verifiable DOT driving experience within the last three (3) years; a valid DOT medical examiners certificate with a minimum of 3 months prior to expiration; be insurable for Total Safety vehicle insurance while driving the company truck; and a satisfactory driving record meeting all requirements of the FMCSR and company policies. Minimum of manufacturer field level training and certification in respiratory and instrumentation. Valid driver's license from state of residence and valid proof of vehicle insurance. Commercial driver’s license per requirements of facility class A, B, or C with HAZMAT endorsement. Must comply with current DOT regulations. Must pass internal forklift training and certification.

Working Environment

Shop, yard, traffic, and customer environments. May be frequently exposed to wet, humid weather conditions and vibration. Shop, plants, highway traffic, and road debris.

High pressure, chemicals, shop traffic. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
