Job summary

Hy-Vee Johnston is hiring a Part Time Non-Certified Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists in processing prescriptions, insurance billing, and customer service. You will assist with inventory, labeling, and prepare prescriptions for dispensing in a fast-paced retail pharmacy.

The role provides hands-on experience toward national certification and requires vaccination certification if administering vaccines, with training provided to ensure accurate, compliant service and patient privacy.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Working toward licensed technician certification through a certified national program required.
• Vaccination certification required if administering vaccines, as required by law.
• Previous experience as a pharmacy clerk preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers and making interactions positive.
• Handle inquiries that do not require pharmacist expertise and judgment.
• Accept new prescriptions and telephoned refill requests under supervising pharmacist.
• Contact doctors to take or request refill prescriptions as needed.
• Gather and maintain accurate patient information for prescriptions.
• Assist pharmacists in preparing prescription products for dispensing.
• Prepare and affix labels to containers and prepare prescriptions to be mailed.
• Submit insurance claims and troubleshoot third-party billing.
• File prescriptions after dispensing and report medication errors.
• Stock pharmacy supplies and log invoices as necessary.
• Administer vaccines as allowed by law, with required certification where applicable.
• Maintain HIPAA confidentiality and pharmacy cleanliness; adhere to regulations.
