Job summary

WVU Medicine in Bridgeport, WV seeks a Medical Assistant to perform basic nursing skills and support physicians and registered nurses under supervision. The role includes patient greeting, room preparation, exams, and coordinating referrals.

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or MA program/1 year clinical experience, and must obtain BLS within 30 days of hire. This is a full-time on-site position with potential for growth.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or at least 1 year of clinical experience.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Greet and escort patients to exam rooms, obtaining initial information and vitals.
• Prepare exam rooms with attention to cleanliness and supplies.
• Assist with and/or perform exams, tests, and procedures.
• Schedule appointments and set up referral contacts as needed.
• Assist providers during patient examinations and procedures.
• Educate patients on follow-up expectations.
• Maintain quality control testing logs as required.
• Ensure all medical equipment is in working condition.
• Assist patients with completion of medical documentation.
• Perform office tasks including phones, messages, data entry, and deposits.

Job description

Performs basic nursing skills, and/or serves under the direction and supervision of the practice physician and/or registered nursing staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• 1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 2. Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program OR one (1) year of experience in a clinical setting.
• 3. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 1. Completion of healthcare education course work.
• 2. One (1) year of healthcare experience.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• 1. Greets and escorts patient to exam rooms; prepares for physician visit by obtaining initial information and vital signs.
• 2. Prepares exam rooms for patients with attention to cleanliness and availability of supplies.
• 3. Assists with and/or performs exams, tests, and procedures.
• 4. Schedules appointments and sets up referral contacts as needed.
• 5. Assists provider during patient examinations and procedures.
• 6. Educates patients on follow up expectations.
• 7.Maintains quality control testing logs as required.
• 8. Ensures all medical equipment is in proper working condition.
• 9. Assists patients with completion of medical documentation.
• 10. Assists with office administrative tasks to include but not limited to answering phones, taking messages, performing office related task (copying, printing, data entry, etc.) and assisting with depositing of cash and other closing duties.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• 1. MEDIUM WORK - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly).
• 2. Ability to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 8-12 hour shift.
