The Oklahoma Indigent Defense System (OIDS) seeks a full-time Defense Counsel in its Cleveland County office to represent indigent clients in state court at the trial level across various case types.

Responsibilities include case management, client communications, investigations, motions, plea negotiations, and research. Must possess a JD and be eligible or admitted to the Oklahoma Bar, with willingness to travel as required.

Formación

• Juris Doctorate degree and active Oklahoma State Bar membership or eligibility for admission.
• Knowledge of state and federal trial procedures, evidence rules, and constitutional law.
• Ability to conduct legal research and write clear, persuasive briefs.

Responsabilidades

• Represent indigent clients in state trial court across felony, misdemeanor, juvenile delinquency, traffic and wildlife cases.
• Maintain complete case files and manage pleadings and orders.
• Conduct investigations, prepare motions, and develop defense strategy with client input.
• Perform legal research and briefing for motions and appeals.
• Engage in plea negotiations and communicate effectively with clients.
