The Oklahoma Indigent Defense System (OIDS) seeks a full-time Appellate Defense Counsel in its Norman office to handle direct appeals before the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals, including capital and non-capital cases. Qualifications include a Juris Doctorate, active Oklahoma State Bar membership or eligibility, and strong research and advocacy skills.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate degree and active membership or eligibility for admission to the State Bar of Oklahoma.
• Strong legal research and writing abilities.
• Ability to interview clients and discuss case status with them.

Responsibilities

• Manage all phases of the direct appeal before the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals for capital and non-capital cases.
• Supervise or assist in drafting appellate briefs and pleadings; prepare for oral arguments.
• Coordinate with clients, witnesses, and other attorneys; supervise petitions for writs of certiorari in capital cases.
