Job summary

The Oklahoma Indigent Defense System (OIDS) in Lawton seeks a full-time Defense Counsel to represent indigent clients in state court at the trial level, handling felony, misdemeanor, juvenile delinquency, traffic, and wildlife cases.

Applicants must hold a Juris Doctorate with active bar status or be eligible for admission, and be willing to travel as required by the position. This role requires zealous advocacy and strong legal research skills.

Qualifications

• Possess a Juris Doctorate and bar admission or eligibility.
• Demonstrated ability to provide zealous advocacy in criminal trials.

Responsibilities

• Represent indigent clients in state court at trial level in felony, misdemeanor, juvenile delinquency, traffic and wildlife cases.
• Perform case management, file pleadings and orders, and maintain client communication.
• Conduct investigations, prepare for trial, file pretrial motions, and develop defense strategy.
• Perform legal research, prepare briefs, and assist in jury selection and appellate issues.
