Backus Hospital is a modern and progressive 233-bed, not-for-profit acute care community hospital providing state-of-the-art comprehensive medical services, personalized attention, and care to residents of its 22-town service area in Southeastern Connecticut. Backus is one of seven hospitals within Hartford HealthCare, the largest, most comprehensive, and integrated health system in Connecticut.
Responsibilities include admissions, cross coverage, and ICU transfers. Backus Hospital has a 12-bed ICU/CCU unit; procedures are not required. This position may also fill in at our sister facility, Windham Hospital, just 16 miles away.
The Nocturnist serves as the admitting physician for the attending medical staff, responsible for the clinical management of patients, ensuring timely communication, and fostering comprehensive collaboration. The role also involves inpatient management and hospital-based medical care. This hospital-based position includes administrative responsibilities such as committee work, quality improvement activities, and teaching for staff and the community. The Hospitalist must be committed to providing high-quality, cost-effective patient care while practicing the hospital's core values of respect, caring, and teamwork.
