Job summary

FreshDirect in New Jersey seeks an experienced Route Driver to deliver refrigerated boxes across the NJ area. You will operate a refrigerated truck and a hand truck, ensuring on-time deliveries and professional customer service at each stop.

The role requires at least 2 years of commercial truck driving, a valid NY/NJ/CT license, and flexibility to work weekends and holidays. Safety and customer focus are essential in this position.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent commercial truck driving experience.
• No degree required.
• Must read/write English clearly.
• Must work weekends (Sat/Sun) and holidays.
• Valid NY/NJ/CT driver license.
• 3 points or less on driving record; no major suspensions recently.
• Lift up to 50 lbs; able to walk stairs if needed.
• Flexible shift (mornings and/or evenings).
• Comfortable interacting with customers.

Responsibilities

• Provide efficient, safe delivery of boxes to depots within the NJ area.
• Operate a refrigerated truck and hand truck during deliveries.

DescriptionBrief DescriptionThe New Jersey Route Driver is responsible for providing efficient and safe delivery of boxes to our customers within the NJ Area. A driver operates a refrigerated truck and also operates a hand truck to assist when making deliveries. Our drivers deliver orders to the appropriate destination within a scheduled time. They are expected to provide professional customer service and timely reporting to supervisors and assigned dispatchers regarding lateness, damaged or missing products.

Responsibilities and Working Conditions

• Provide an efficient and safe delivery of boxes to our depots within the NJ area
• Operates a refrigerated truck and also operates a hand truck to assist when making deliveries
• Deliver orders to the appropriate destination within a scheduled time
• Provide professional customer service
• Provide timely reporting to supervisors and assigned dispatchers regarding lateness, damaged or missing products
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• In a workday: standing/walking 6-10 hours or more
• Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
• Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
• Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals, loud noises, flashing lights
• Constant exposure to temperatures: <-10 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators)
• Ability to work in a wet and cold environment
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
• Ability to work in other areas of the business as needed

Education and Qualifications

• Must embody and demonstrate company values and culture
• A minimum of 2 years of RECENT commercial truck driving experience
• No degree required
• Ability to clearly communicate and read in English
• Must be able to work weekends (Saturday & Sunday) and Holidays
• Must be able to work a flexible shift (mornings and/or evenings)
• Ability to complete all basic and recurring training
• Must be able to deliver orders up to 50 lbs in weight to the appropriate destination within a scheduled time [this may include walking up or down several flights of stairs]
• Must be comfortable interacting with customers
• Must have a strong commitment to customer service and safe
• Comfort /familiarity with basic smartphone operations
• Ability to utilize smartphones for two-way communication with our Operations Team
• Must embody and demonstrate company values and culture
• 21 years of age or older
• Must have a valid NY, NJ, CT driver license
• Ability to prioritize and make decisions independently
• Ability to navigate a route successfully & independently
• 3 points or less on a motor vehicle report
• No suspensions within the past 12 months and no more than 1 suspension in the past 3 years
• No more than 1 accident in the past three years
• Cannot have more than 3 moving violations within the past 3 years
