Job summary

Fowler Welch in Washington is seeking an experienced Yard Shunter to support a busy chilled logistics operation. This is a dedicated yard-based role focused on shunting rather than road driving.

You will move trailers safely on and off loading bays, monitor yard movements, operate a yard shunting vehicle, and collaborate with transport and warehouse teams to keep the operation running smoothly. The shift runs Friday to Monday, 18:00–06:00, with funded CPC training and employee benefits.

Qualifications

  • Previous yard shunting experience preferred.
  • Dedicated shunting role in a fast-paced busy yard environment.
  • Class 1 licence experience preferred, though not required for core duties.

Responsibilities

  • Move trailers safely on and off loading bays during the shift.
  • Monitor, patrol and maintain safe yard movements for yard safety.
  • Operate a dedicated yard-based shunting vehicle.
  • Help ensure trailers are positioned correctly and loaded on time.
  • Work with transport and warehouse teams to keep operations running smoothly.
  • Liaise with other departments to support loading/unloading.
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety, hygiene and housekeeping.
