Job summary

Union County is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I–IV to operate and monitor WWTP equipment on a Tuesday-Saturday night shift. You will collect samples, run tests, monitor SCADA, and help with maintenance under supervision, while maintaining logs and safety compliance.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, and progressively obtaining NC Grade I–IV certifications within specified timelines; relevant shift experience is helpful.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required for to start; certifications to be obtained.
• NC Grade I Biological Water Pollution Control System Operator Certification or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• NC Grade II Biological Water Pollution Control System Operator Certification within 18 months.

Responsibilities

• Assist in operation of WWTP on assigned shift, learning from other operators.
• Monitor process controls and records; perform rounds and log data.
• Support with startup/shutdown and preventive maintenance on plant equipment.
• Conduct tests and monitor key parameters to ensure permit compliance.
• Maintain safety, housekeeping, and documentation per SOPs.
