Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a Patient Visual Monitor Technician for the Central Monitoring Unit on the Nights shift. You will observe up to sixteen patients on monitors, assist nursing staff, and ensure patient safety using virtual monitoring tools.

Under RN supervision, you perform basic patient care activities, document relevant changes, collaborate with the care team, and maintain a clean, safe workstation. This role emphasizes teamwork and reliable monitoring.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of behavioral health education/training within 90 days of hire.
• Basic Life Support (Healthcare Provider) within 6 months of hire.
• Previous healthcare experience preferred.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Operate, maintain, and make minor repairs to equipment.
• Use keyboard as part of duties.
• Communicate with patients using push-to-call devices.
• Monitor up to sixteen patients on a screen.
• Multitask and prioritize effectively.

Responsibilities

• Equipment & Technology: ensure equipment is clean, functional, maintained; coordinate with teams.
• Patient Safety: observe patients, report changes promptly to nursing staff.
• Virtual Monitoring & Safety: use virtual monitoring software; alert bedside team as needed.
• Direct Patient Care: assist with activities of daily living and comfort.
• Documentation & Communication: document care, communicate with RNs and team.
• Collaboration & Professionalism: participate in meetings and committees; support team efficiency.
• Training & Competency: complete unit competencies and stay updated on protocols.
• Miscellaneous: engage with patients, maintain a clean, safe work environment.
