Job summary

IU Health in Lafayette, Indiana seeks a Full-Time Night shift Unit Secretary/Patient Care Assistant to support the patient care team. You will provide direct patient care under a Clinical Nurse and handle unit clerical duties, coordinating tests and maintaining records.

You will help keep the environment clean, assist physicians, patients, families, and vendors, and may perform suicide prevention monitoring and equipment logistics as needed, with the goal of seamless, safe patient care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CPR may be required to complete Unit Secretary training.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of infection control principles.
• Knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Basic computer skills required.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the direction of a Clinical Nurse.
• Perform unit clerical duties and sign patients in and out.
• May schedule tests and procedures and maintain patient records.
• May be responsible for ordering, receiving and delivering equipment and supplies.
• Provide information, directions and assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors.
• May provide continuous observation including suicide prevention.
