Job summary

IU Health in Indianapolis is seeking a full-time Day shift Unit Secretary who provides a combination of direct patient care and essential clerical support to the patient care team. The role assists with scheduling tests, maintaining records, and ensuring a clean, organized unit environment.

Under the direction of a Clinical Nurse, you will communicate with physicians, patients, families and vendors, perform sign-in/out, and participate in safety measures including suicide prevention as required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CPR may be required to complete Unit Secretary training.
• Requires basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Infection control principles knowledge is needed.
• Basic computer skills expected.
• Experience or completion of IU Health PCA education program may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care under the direction of a Clinical Nurse.
• Performs unit clerical duties and supports the patient care team.
• Schedules tests/procedures and maintains patient records.
• Signs patients in and out of the unit and may handle equipment and supplies.
• Maintains a clean and orderly patient environment.
• Offers information and assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors.
• May provide continuous observation including suicide prevention.
