Job summary

Indiana University Health in Indianapolis is seeking a Full-Time Day Unit Secretary who provides a combination of direct patient care and unit clerical support. Under the direction of a Clinical Nurse, you assist the patient care team, schedule tests, maintain records and help with ordering equipment.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, Basic Life Support certification, and basic knowledge of medical terminology, infection control, and computer skills.

Qualifications

• Requires previous comparable acute patient care experience or successful completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or attainment at the completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Requires basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Requires knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Requires knowledge of infection control.
• Requires basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides a combination of direct patient care and unit clerical duties for the department under the direction of a Clinical Nurse.
• Administers care to designated patients and supports the patient care team.
• May schedule tests and procedures for the patient, maintain patient records and sign patients in and out of the unit.
• May be responsible for ordering, receiving and delivering equipment and supplies for the patient care team.
• May require continuous observation including suicide prevention.
