Job summary

Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is seeking a Monitor Technician to join the Telemetry Monitor Surveillance team on the night shift (7pm–7am). This full-time role supports a 12-bed cardiac unit, observing and documenting EKG tracings to detect dysrhythmias and ensure patient safety.

The position requires a high school diploma and a monitor technician program, with orientation to Arrhythmia competency. One year of EKG/Monitor Tech experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Completion of a monitor technician surveillance program/course required upon hire.
• Candidates not having a monitor tech surveillance program must complete a certificate within 90 days of hire; or 1 year experience in monitor technician surveillance within last 5 years accepted as substitute.
• To be released from new employee orientation, all Monitor Technicians must pass Sentara Basic Arrhythmia competency tool with a basic arrhythmia exam.

Responsibilities

• Observes, recognizes, interprets, evaluates, and documents EKG tracings on telemetry-monitored patients to detect deviations from the norm.
• Notifies appropriate personnel promptly of dysrhythmias.
• Operates and utilizes monitoring system to full capacity; ensures proper and safe functioning of telemetry equipment.
