Qualifications

  • Knowledge of building maintenance, cleaning procedures, school operations, mechanical systems, and landscape care.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise assigned facilities, maintenance, and custodial staff by determining workloads, priorities, and daily schedules.
  • Develop, interpret, apply and implement departmental policies and SOPs.
  • Train staff in maintenance and custodial practices, safety procedures, and equipment operation.
  • Evaluate staff and implement corrective action plans when required.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with staff and district personnel to meet department objectives.
  • Inspect school facilities and grounds; monitor and improve district custodial and maintenance operations.
  • Plan, coordinate, schedule, and inspect work of internal staff and outside contractors for safety and compliance.
  • Supervise complex custodial work and maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, boiler rooms, and custodial closets are clean and organized.
  • Respond to emergencies and safety concerns to maintain a functional educational environment.
  • Inspect facilities for safety and security; minimize risk and liability.
  • Prepare and maintain records related to work performed, materials used, and contracted services.

JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: F- 110 - Night Supervisor of Facilities - REVISED
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Possession of a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of skilled maintenance or custodial experience; which must include at least one (1) year of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid New Jersey driver's license and a satisfactory driving record annually.
  • Required criminal background check.
  • Low-pressure Black Seal Boiler Operator license required (or preferred within year of employment depending on district placement).
  • New Jersey Certified Educational Facilities Manager (CEFM) certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and direct diverse department staff, including maintenance tradesmen and custodial personnel.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building maintenance, cleaning procedures, school building operations, mechanical systems, and landscape care.

SUPERVISES: Assigned Custodian And Maintenance Staff
JOB GOAL: The Night Supervisor of Facilities assists the Director of Facilities with providing leadership for the complete daily operation of all school facilities. This role ensures students and staff are provided with a physical environment that is healthy, safe, clean, and efficiently operated.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise assigned facilities, maintenance, and custodial staff by determining workloads, priorities, and daily schedules.
  • Develop, interpret, apply and implement departmental policies, standard operating procedures, and work standards.
  • Train staff in standard maintenance and custodial practices, safety procedures, and equipment operation.
  • Evaluate assigned staff members regularly; determine and implement corrective action plans when required.
  • Maintain effective, positive working relationships with maintenance tradesmen, custodial staff, supervisors, administrators, and district personnel to meet department objectives.
Operations & Facility Management
  • Inspect school facilities and grounds regularly; report on building support, cleanliness, and services to building principals, administrators, department supervisors, and head custodians.
  • Monitor, participate in, and review district custodial and maintenance operations; develop and implement modifications for continuous improvement.
  • Plan, coordinate, schedule, and inspect the work of both internal staff and outside contractors to ensure safe work practices and contractual compliance.
  • Supervise complex custodial work, maintenance activities, and minor repair tasks.
  • Ensure mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, boiler rooms, and custodial closets are kept clean, neat, organized, and secure.
  • Oversee designated health and safety tasks, including district HVAC filter cleaning/replacement programs and the inspection of life safety devices.
  • Perform hands‑on tasks as required, including but not limited to painting, filter changes, plumbing, electrical work, and field custodial activities.
Emergency Response & Safety
  • Respond to and direct staff during immediate emergency, health, safety, and custodial concerns to maintain a functioning educational environment.
  • Inspect facilities and grounds for safety and security precautions to minimize property damage, equipment loss, and potential liability.
  • Strict adherence to and maintenance of safety practices and principles related to overall department operations.
Administration & Budgetary Support
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports related to work scheduled, work performed, materials utilized, and contracted services.
  • Ensure orders for materials, supplies, equipment, and contracted services are appropriate for the required scope of work; maintain inventory and documentation of costs.
  • Generate purchase requisitions using associated District technologies.
  • Evaluate situations involving staff, students, parents, and the public for the purpose of taking appropriate action or directing personnel for swift resolution.
  • Perform any duties and responsibilities within the scope of employment as assigned by the Director of Facilities or designee, and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

ANNUAL EVALUATION:

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board's policy on the evaluation of non-certificated staff.
