HIGH SCHOOL / MIDDLE SCHOOL CUSTODIAL COORDINATOR
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Operations
NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB:

To oversee custodial operations and building custodial staff, to ensure an attractive, sanitary and safe facility for students, staff, and public at district facilities; providing equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities, and events; and minimizing property damage, loss, and liability exposure.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 1. Hold a Black Seal Fireman's License or shall meet requirements to obtain this license within one year of the date of employment.
  • 2. Preferred to have a minimum of two (2) years of experience.
  • 3. Hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 4. Possess a valid N.J. Driver's License.
  • 5. Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character.
  • 6. Demonstrate the ability to work well with others and with a wide diversity of individuals.
  • 7. Demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, understand, and/or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
  • 8. Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for work processing, data management, information retrieval, visual presentations, and telecommunications.
  • 9. Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status by completing Federal Form I-9 in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
  • 10. Provide evidence of clearance of a criminal record history check by the Department of Education.
  • 11. Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4.
  • 12. Pass the state-required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4.
  • 13. Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications, as the Superintendent may deem appropriate, acceptable, and legal.

JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • 1. Recommend, for purchase, supplies, materials, and equipment needed for the custodial program and maintain an adequate inventory.
  • 2. Coordinate coverage of building events for school custodial staff.
  • 3. Monitor the records of all custodial employees in the school.
  • 4. Maintain an inventory and recommend purchase of suitable supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • 5. Strive constantly to promote the safety, health, and comfort of the students and employees.
  • 6. Perform related duties as required.
  • 7. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.
  • 8. Serve as a role model for staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming, and an effective work ethic.
  • 9. Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attend any required meetings.
  • 10. Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties, and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines.
  • 11. Adhere to federal statutes and regulations, New Jersey school law, construction codes, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies and procedures, and contractual obligations.
  • 12. Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by the Supervisor of Operations and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
  • 13. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.
  • 14. Keep track of supplies and inventory and distribute as needed.

  • 8. Demonstrate knowledge of procedures to be followed in establishing and maintaining records and files, equipment, materials, supplies, work completed, and time spent.
  • 9. Demonstrate ability to associate with children and school staff.
  • 10. Assess and report needed repairs to supervisor.
  • 11. Inspect, analyze, and determine the cleaning work to be done and materials needed.

EVALUATION:

The building principal and/or Director of Facilities shall evaluate the High School / Middle School Custodial Coordinator in accordance with this job description, and such other criteria as shall be established by the Board of Education.
