TITLE:

Simsbury High School Custodial Evening Shift Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 1. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
• 2. Proven ability to communicate effectively with members of the school and community organizations who utilize the facility.
• 3. Proven ability to effectively manage a team of more than 5 custodians.
• 4. Two years' experience in general cleaning or maintenance work.
• 5. Ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing from 25 to 50 pounds.
• 6. Ability to work, occasionally, in poor weather conditions.

REPORTS TO:

Simsbury High School Custodial Coordinator/Supervisor and Building Principal

JOB GOAL:

To supervise the cleaning, maintenance, and security of the school building, equipment, and grounds; to respond to emergency situations in the school building such as power failure, plumbing, heating, or vandalism problems; and to serve as a point person representing the school administration with school and community groups that utilize the SHS facility.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 1. Plans work according to school or seasonal priority in conjunction with the SHS Custodial Coordinator/Supervisor.
• 2. Organizes, supervises, and participates in cleaning, maintenance, and repair of school building, equipment, and adjacent grounds.
• 3. Secures building at end of shift.
• 4. Assigns cleaning, maintenance, and repair duties to custodians.
• 5. Supervises custodial crew members assigned to the shift, making required adjustments to cleaning schedules as might be caused by staff absences or special events.
• 6. Performs daily cleaning tasks.
• 7. Maintains walks and grounds using power snow-blower, power mower, and hand tools.
• 8. Performs minor maintenance and repair work using carpentry, painting, and plumbing skills.
• 9. Plans and participates in general cleaning and maintenance work during school vacations.
• 10. Assists in training custodians, including seasonal workers, in cleaning and maintenance activities.
• 11. Works with the SHS Custodial Coordinator/Supervisor in the supervision of employees, makes recommendations concerning discipline and commendations, and contributes to employee evaluations.
• 12. Follows standard safety procedures and regulations.
• 13. In conjunction with the SHS Custodial Coordinator/Supervisor, prepares buildings and grounds for use by school and community organizations and serves as a point person representing the school administration with school and community groups that utilize the SHS facility.
• 14. Assists visitors to school building.
• 15. Regularly inspects buildings and equipment and reports problems to SHS Custodial Coordinator/Supervisor.
• 16. Regularly checks operation of heating equipment and fuel level.
• 17. Performs other duties as may be assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Twelve-month year. Salary to be in accordance with the contract between the Board of Education and the National Association of Municipal Employees.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of Non-Certificated Personnel.
