Job summary

City of Fort Wayne is seeking a Utility Person for 3rd shift (11:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.) in Fort Wayne, IN. The role involves outdoor work, operating heavy equipment, and on-call rotation to support essential water, sewer, and stormwater systems.

You will join a crew performing skilled and general labor, installing and repairing mains, hydrants, valves, and related infrastructure, with emphasis on safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to perform heavy, strenuous physical work outside in all weather.
• Lift and move up to 50 pounds.
• Able to safely use hand tools, power tools, machinery and construction equipment.
• Follow written, verbal and diagram-based instructions.
• Basic computer skills and GIS/mobile work-order systems knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy trucks, front-end loaders and other construction equipment.
• Install and repair water mains, hydrants, valves, and taps.
• Install and repair sewer and stormwater mains, laterals, manholes and catch basins.
• Excavate, pour and finish concrete and asphalt repairs.
• Inspect vehicles, equipment and work areas and follow safety procedures.
