Job summary

UofL Hospital - UMC in Louisville, KY is seeking a Unit Clerk to perform clerical duties on the unit under Licensed Nursing Personnel. You will maintain patient records, ensure census accuracy, and support efficient unit operations during night shifts.

The role requires high school education, basic medical terminology, and BLS certification. Strong time management and interpersonal skills are essential, with responsibilities spanning HIPAA compliance and cross-department communication.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED/Equivalent (required)
• Previous clerical/computer experience and medical terminology strongly preferred.
• Experience with software systems. Experience in charging supplies (required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required)

Responsibilities

• Support the mission, vision, and values of the organization
• Interacts effectively with patients, physicians, nurses, visitors, and other customers utilizing effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills
• Maintains the patient record by properly stickering, identifying, and filing all patient documents
• Forwards all medical records to the HIM department upon discharge
• Ensures station census is accurate and all patients are correct in computer systems
• Maintains clean and organized workstations
• Reports hazards and unsafe practices to leadership or other appropriate individuals
• Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
• Performs other duties as assigned
