Job summary

Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster, OH is hiring a Unit Clerk to support the nursing team on the 4th Med/Surg unit. You will perform clerical and receptionist duties, monitor patient charts, transcribe orders, and greet visitors in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Under the direction of the Staff RN, you will maintain telemetry alerts, update vital signs and charts, and help with records and training of new staff, contributing to safe, organized patient care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
• Previous clerical support or healthcare experience preferred.
• On the job training.
• Strong interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills. Professional telephone etiquette.

Responsibilities

• Observes telemetry monitors and alerts RN of changes.
• Maintains additional patient packets.
• Updates patient charts, graphs vital signs, heights and weights.
• Performs general receptionist duties: answers phone, screens calls, refers calls, takes messages, greets and assists visitors, etc.
• Transcribes physician orders and has knowledge of order entry system.
• Monitors patient destination and location of patient charts.
• Answers intercom promptly and communicates patient needs to appropriate nursing staff.
• Maintains department records and statistics.
• Orients and trains new employees.
