Job summary

Southern Champion Tray (SCT) in Chattanooga, TN, is hiring a 2nd Press Operator for the night shift. You will be responsible for the safe setup and operation of the sheet-fed press feeder, ensuring high-quality prints at the correct speed; aid the First Press Operator and monitor ink/board quality while following SCT standards and procedures.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and 1–3 months of related experience; knowledge of large format printing and English-language instructions

Qualifications

• Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED; 1–3 months related experience; experience operating or feeding a large format press preferred; folding carton industry experience a plus.
• Language Skills: Ability to read and understand documents and write legibly in English; speak clearly and follow directions in English as needed.
• Mathematical Skills: Basic math including fractions/decimals; read a tape measure; understand standard/metric measuring systems.
• Physical Demands: Ability to walk, stand, lift 25–50 pounds, and perform eight hours of shift work.
• Safety: Follow safety policies; wear PPE; maintain clean work environment per 5S and Food Safety.

Responsibilities

• PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Safe setup and operation of the feeder area of the conventional sheet-fed printing press; ensure quality products at a consistent speed per standards.
• SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY: Review production schedule and job tickets for specs, materials, and setup; follow instructions and communicate with supervisor.
• Maintain ink levels, clean ink towers, and set up ink towers per job ticket instructions.
• Inspect paperboard quality and set up feeder/transfer table; adjust controls to achieve target run speeds and efficiency.
• Assist First Press Operator with quality checks before, during, and after production; verify print accuracy with customer proofs.
• Train new Operators on safety and quality procedures; perform routine cleaning and preventative maintenance.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area in line with 5S and Food Safety policies; report unsafe conditions.
• Collaborate with team members and Quality Technicians to ensure adherence to SCT standards and improvements.
