Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Medical/Surgical Unit on a PRN night shift. The RN will provide bedside care to adult medical and surgical patients, using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.

Night shift requires collaboration with physicians and the interdisciplinary team, safe medication administration, and timely documentation. A current RN license and BLS certification are required, with benefits offered per position

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited course or have at least 2 years of experience surpassing the minimal qualification required.
• Field of Study: The applicable major should be nursing.
• A minimum of 2 years in a relevant role is expected.
• Certification: Hold a BLS certificate now or obtain within 30 days of starting in this role.
• Registered Nurse License

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and prioritize patient needs based on condition, acuity, and individualized care requirements.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans and modify interventions as patient conditions change.
• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to adult medical and surgical patients throughout their hospitalization.
• Monitor patients throughout the night for changes in condition, recognize potential complications, and communicate significant findings promptly.
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately according to physician orders, nursing standards, and hospital policies.
• Create a caring, safe, and supportive environment for patients, families, and staff.
• Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
• Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, disease management, and discharge needs.
• Collaborate with physicians, patient care technicians, case management, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care.
• Delegate appropriate tasks based on patient condition, staff competency, and established guidelines.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, patient responses, and changes in condition.
• Prioritize multiple patient care needs and utilize available resources effectively during the night shift.
• Participate in shift handoff and communication to promote continuity and safety of care.
• Demonstrate flexibility and professionalism while working in a PRN capacity and adapting to changing patient care needs.
