Job summary

Yale New Haven Health seeks an experienced registered nurse to oversee patient care on a nursing unit. The role involves assessing patients, planning and coordinating care with the healthcare team, and supervising staff including charge nurse duties.

The ideal candidate holds a Connecticut RN license, BSN preferred, and BLs certification. Oncology/chemotherapy experience is preferred to ensure high-quality patient care and safety.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
• Valid Connecticut Registered Nurse license.
• BLS certification required.
• Experience in medical, surgical, oncology and chemotherapy settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assesses the patient’s physical and psychosocial condition on an ongoing basis throughout the continuum of care.
• Develops, communicates and documents a plan of care involving the patient, family and healthcare team.
• Implements and coordinates the plan of care with the healthcare team.
• Evaluates effectiveness of the plan of care and readiness for discharge; revises as needed.
• Plans for education after assessing learning needs and readiness of patient and family.
• Precepts new staff and serves as charge nurse when required.
• Meets performance expectations for customer service, teamwork and resource utilization.
• Performs other duties to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.
• Demonstrates competency in care of chemotherapy patients and initiation of IV access.
