Job summary

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required.
• One or more years' experience in mental health admissions preferred.
• Experience in clinical interviewing, patient assessment, referral, and treatment planning.
• Experience in managed care pre-certification process, level of care assessments and utilization.
• Outstanding interpersonal, interviewing, and assessment skills; strong telephone etiquette.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates admissions and assessment processes for incoming patients; documents symptoms and needs.
• Collaborates with facility staff to ensure appropriate admissions; communicates admissions projections.
• Provides coverage for call center duties: answer phones, verify insurance, process admissions; assist with pre-certifications.
• Gathers admission documentation from external sources and secures initial pre-authorizations.
• Reviews patient charts to determine medical necessity and coordinates with physicians for orders and DSM-V diagnoses.
• Communicates treatment recommendations to other treatment teams; coordinates across levels of care.
• May administer medications under supervision; educates patients on side effects and monitors lab results for adherence.
• Maintains medication accountability and ADR documentation; stays informed on common psychiatric medications.
• Ensures thorough documentation for each patient and responds to service requests per policy.
