Job summary

MEDIKO is seeking a compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to provide direct patient care at Roanoke City Adult Detention Center. Responsibilities include health assessments, medication administration, and responding to medical emergencies in a structured, corrections-focused setting.

The ideal candidate holds an active RN license, a high school diploma or GED, and preferably an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing. 1–3 years of nursing experience and CPR/BLS certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RN license in applicable state.
• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate/Bachelor's degree preferred.
• 1–3 years of nursing experience preferred.
• Experience in correctional health, behavioral health, emergency services, hospital, long-term care, or similar settings preferred.
• Current CPR/BLS certification (AHA or ARC).
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, documentation, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake screenings, health assessments, and ongoing patient evaluations.
• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized patient care plans.
• Administer medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed.
• Provide care for patients with acute illnesses, chronic conditions, and behavioral health needs.
• Respond to sick calls, medical emergencies, and urgent healthcare situations.
• Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, and outcomes in EMR.
• Collaborate with physicians, mental health professionals, and facility staff to coordinate care.
• Educate patients on disease prevention, treatment plans, and health management.
• Ensure compliance with nursing standards, facility policies, and healthcare regulations.
• Support quality improvement initiatives and maintain a safe healthcare environment.
• Assist in mentoring and guiding nursing staff.
