Job summary

Methodist Southwest Medical Center is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) for 7pm-6:30am night shifts on a 3x12 rotating schedule. The role covers ABG, PFT, ventilator support, and oxygen/aerosol therapy for adults and neonates, under department supervision.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program.
• Current Basic Life Support certification required.
• Current Advanced Cardio Life Support certification required.
• NRP, Pediatric Advanced Life Support — must obtain within 1 year of hire.
• Currently licensed as Respiratory Care Practitioner by Texas Medical Board.
• Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
• At least 6 months respiratory care experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs respiratory therapeutics including oxygen administration and weaning, aerosol and humidity therapy, IPPB, Incentive Spirometry, airway maintenance, bronchial hygiene, chest physiotherapy, CPR and mechanical ventilation.
• Performs prescribed cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures including arterial blood gas analysis, pulse oximetry, pulmonary function studies, and ECGs.
• Prepares a treatment evaluation including bedside respiratory assessment, patient interview and chart review.
• Apply critical thinking in appropriate actions.
• Interpret chest X-ray, ABG, and PFT data when reviewing patient information.
• Assemble, check, operate and troubleshoot cardiopulmonary equipment (airways, ventilators, oxygen devices, gas analyzers).
• Participate in infection control, safety and quality assurance.
• Perform cleaning and maintenance of equipment and work areas.
• Use customer scripting to aid patient satisfaction.
• Perform other job duties as required.
