Job summary

Rush Oak Park Hospital is seeking a dedicated Respiratory Therapist to provide a full range of therapeutic and diagnostic services on the general care floors and specialized units. You will independently manage ventilation, administer therapies, and evaluate patient responses to optimize cardiopulmonary status.

The role requires an RRT and Illinois license, BLS/ACLS with PALS within 90 days, and a minimum Associate’s degree with a Bachelor’s preferred.

Qualifications

• Registered Respiratory Therapist with Illinois license.
• BLS and ACLS required; PALS within 90 days of hire; NRP preferred.
• Minimum education: Associate’s degree; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administers, monitors, and weans mechanical ventilation; makes ventilator recommendations.
• Administers bronchial hygiene and therapy, analyzes gases, and delivers gases using central systems.
• Assesses patients before/after therapy; recommends initial therapy, changes, and discontinuance.
• Applies CPAP/BIPAP and evaluates patient compliance and response to therapy.
• Participates in CQI/QA initiatives and DMS projects to improve care and environment.
• Develops patient-driven protocols with department leadership and documents care.
• Assesses oxygenation, ventilation, hemodynamics, and uses monitoring tools; manages CPR.
• Performs bedside spirometry and evaluates normal values.
• Provides patient and family education; conducts ECGs and arterial punctures.
• Maintains blood gas equipment calibration, QC, and proficiency testing.
• Performs bronchoscopy assist and supervises respiratory students.
