Job summary

Hospital for Special Surgery is seeking a Plant Engineer I for the night shift to perform a variety of maintenance and engineering duties in the facility Engineering Department. The role requires knowledge of HVAC plant operations, utilities, chillers, pumps, steam systems, and related equipment, with an emphasis on safety and reliability.

The Engineer reports to the Plant Engineer and designee and should be able to troubleshoot issues, read blueprints, and operate Building Management Systems.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Two (2) years of plant operations and maintenance experience.
• Healthcare setting experience is a plus.
• Current NYC Refrigeration System Operation Certificate of Qualification (Q 01) is required.
• All listed licenses (S-12, S-13, S-95, P-98, A-35, G-71) must be obtained and maintained.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair plant and facilities utility systems.
• Read blueprints, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings.
• Operate chillers, pumps, AHUs, package units, cooling towers, and generators to ensure reliability and safety.
• Perform preventive maintenance on facility equipment.
• Identify system issues and troubleshoot to restore operation.
• Work with building management systems to monitor HVAC operations.
• Respond to emergencies and coordinate with security and facilities teams.
