Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a part-time/PRN phlebotomist to join the SHERMAN lab team in Illinois. You will perform venipuncture, collect specimens and ensure proper labeling and handling, while maintaining patient safety and comfort in a busy hospital setting.

Requires high school diploma; 1 year phlebotomy experience preferred; strong communication and computer skills. 3rd shift, start times 10:30–11:00 PM, 8.5 hour shifts, minimum one shift per week.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Verifies positive patient identification to ensure patient safety.
• Performs venipuncture and collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients.
• Obtains specimens according to priority and scheduled draw times.
• Ensures specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing.
• Answers and screens telephone calls; assists with inventory and supplies.
• Accepts specimens from internal and external customers; responds to requests.
• Orders and verifies test requests; documents information for quality assurance.
• Reviews pending and management reports; distributes reports.
• Provides assistance in support of Billing and other functions.
• Instructs employees and students in phlebotomy and data entry.
• Demonstrates ability to care for patients of various ages.
