Responsibilities

• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
• Performs phlebotomy and ensures accurate collection of requested tests from patient through venipuncture, fingerstick or heelstick.
• Maintains positive patient identification during specimen collection.
• Communicates to nursing personnel about patient identification, fasting requirements, or language barriers when collecting specimens.
• Reviews all requisitions for missing information and follows up with facility or provider if unable to obtain required information.
• Checks collection, sorting and storage areas to ensure specimens are not missed.
• Monitors Collection List and Unreceived Specimen Report; records time of collection and phlebotomist code.
• Cleans and stocks work area and follows safety and dress code policies; performs other lab duties as assigned.
