Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Part-time Patient Care Technician to perform basic nursing tasks under RN supervision. The role includes monitoring vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living, and communicating patient needs across departments.

The position is night shift (7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.) with alternating weekends and holidays, primarily a sitter role with PCT responsibilities, and may float to other hospital areas as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS certification from American Heart Association required.
• CNA, CMA, EMT, or nursing student with one semester of clinical completed required.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
• Assists patients with personal care and activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, eating).
• Reports abnormal findings or changes to nursing staff.
• Keeps patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking under stress.
• Uses critical thinking to prioritize unit work as needs change.
• Serves as liaison between patient care units and other departments.
• Answers telephone, intercom, and call lights with proper etiquette and communicates information to staff/family/patient.
• Manages overall unit workflow with charge RN/assistant manager as needed.
• Performs pre-census and validates daily admission, discharge and census lists as needed.
