Qualifications

• Completion of an approved medical assistant program.
• Completion of a nursing assistant program with documentation of training in EKG and Phlebotomy in lieu of medical assistant training.
• Course requirements for graduation from a Registered Nursing program, after unsuccessful 2nd attempt of the NCLEX exam.
• Qualified to work with neonatal, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patients as assigned.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Provides patient care by performing assigned tasks for patient care plan implementation.
• Contributes information in day to day management of patient care.
• Carries out routine nursing care measures as delegated.
• Takes and records patient’s vital signs.
• Taking and recording temperature, pulse, blood pressure and respiration.
• Prepares and forwards specimens (urine, stool and sputum).
• Delivers activities of daily living such as hygiene, nutrition, elimination and progressive activity.
• Maintains records of fluid intake and output.
• Provides measures of comfort and convenience.
• Observes and reports patient’s response to interventions/treatment.
• Completes all documentation requirements in a timely manner.
• One-on-one supervision for patients requiring close observation.
• Obtains medical and lab records.
• Communicates unit activities, needs and problems to staff.
• Follows up with patients as required.
• Performs other procedures specific to clinical area.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide care with age-specific sensitivity.
• Performs diagnostic EKGs as required.
• Informs and explains EKG test purposes and procedures to the patient.
• Determines proper placement and attaches electrodes for EKG.
• Administers EKG exam and observes tracings and equipment.
• Ensures accurate documentation in procedures including ordering, charging, and data entry.
• Collects specimens and performs phlebotomy with minimal discomfort.
• Performs venipuncture and skin puncture for tests.
• Obtains blood/specimen and performs screening tests as ordered.
• Collects venous, capillary and micro specimens from patients.
• Calms patients and explains why specimen is needed.
• Prepares and transports specimens to labs.
• Interacts in a courteous manner per iRESPECT standards.
• Collaborates with staff to coordinate patient care activities.
• Performs clerical duties and manages charts and testing schedules.
• Maintains confidential patient information and HIPAA compliance.
• Responds to emergencies and notifies appropriate personnel.
• Completes required training and attends mandatory meetings.
• Supports performance improvement initiatives.
• Assists with department equipment and stock management.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
• Collaborates with forensic team and law enforcement as required for inmate care.
• Provides coverage for relief and absences.
• Performs other duties as required.
