Job summary

MultiCare Health System in Tacoma, WA is seeking a Patient Access Technician (PAT) to ensure accurate admissions and registrations and to support a smooth patient flow in a 1.0 FTE, nights schedule with 10-hour shifts at Allenmore Hospital.

The PAT applies professional service orientation, good judgment and independent thinking in daily tasks such as screening demographic and insurance details, performing eligibility checks and coordinating with the Financial Counselor when needed.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a health vocational program such as Patient Access, Medical Assistance Medical Billing & Insurance.
• One (1) year of experience performing any combination of admitting, Health Unit Coordinator, patient registration, customer service or billing duties required; healthcare setting preferred

Responsibilities

• You will assure complete and accurate patient admissions/registrations according to organization policy and procedures and regulatory requirements
• You will obtain inpatient bed assignments and processes inpatient admission, including arm banding, addressograph plate, and completion of necessary forms
• You will pre-admit all scheduled inpatient, outpatients and ambulatory patients to facilitate a smooth and speedy admission/registration process
• You will obtain direct admit information and enter a reservation in the computer system in order to notify other areas
• You will complete comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews with the patient, relative, or their representative to obtain pertinent demographic insurance and/or third-party liability information
• You will perform eligibility verification and resolves any discrepancies, determine the need for financial assistance recommendation and application, referring to the Financial Counselor where necessary
