Job summary

Veterans Health Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, is seeking Nursing Assistants to join the care team in the Community Living Center and related units. The NA provides daily living assistance under supervision and supports the patient care plan under licensed staff.

VHA emphasizes compassionate patient care, teamwork with RNs and LPNs, and adherence to safety and documentation standards. Weekend and holiday availability is preferred, with 12-hour night shifts frequently scheduled.

Qualifications

• Citizenship: US citizenship required; non-citizens may only be appointed when allowed by VA policy.
• English proficiency: Nursing Assistants must be proficient in spoken and written English.
• Experience/education/training: six months general experience or one year education above high school with related courses; or completion of a shorter NA program.
• Grade requirements: GS-3 to GS-5 with progressively responsible experience and KSAs; grandfathering provisions may apply.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a positive therapeutic relationship with patients and families.
• Observe and report patient condition to RN/LPN; document in EHR and team communications.
• Assist with basic nursing care: hygiene, grooming, nutrition, mobility, and comfort.
• Assist with transporting patients and equipment; use proper body mechanics to prevent injury.
• Provide basic life support readiness and promptly respond to emergent care situations when needed.
• Precept new NAs and participate in orientation and hands-on training.
• Help orient patients/families to unit routines and care plans.
