Job summary

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is seeking a full-time Security Assistant for the 3rd shift to support after-hours safety and security. You will monitor CCTV, manage the Control Room, and communicate issues to on-duty officers.

Responsibilities include emergency response, evacuations, and assisting visitors and staff in difficult situations. A strong customer-service orientation and ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays are required.

Qualifications

• Must have proven experience in customer service and security with knowledge of emergency protocols.
• Must be CPR/First Aid certified or have the ability to be certified in 6 months.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Must enjoy constant interaction with people and have the ability to communicate effectively and in a positive manner, even under high-stress situations.
• Must possess computer data entry skills and the ability to handle and reconcile cash.
• Must maintain a positive working relationship with a large team of diverse staff and volunteers.
• Must be able to work weekends and available on holidays and evening shifts.
• Must be able to quickly move throughout the museum and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to review daily handouts and email communication.
• Must be able to interface with telephone contact, one-on-one conversations and public presentations.
• Required to be able to handle heavy communications by one-on-one conversations and public presentations.
• Must be able to handle moderate keyboard and calculator use for administering ticket sales and moderate paperwork processing.
• Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to personally negotiate getting self into and out of the building without trouble and assist visitors in doing so, as well.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time, up to 8 hours per day, and work outside in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Monitor CCTV and security systems from the Control Room and coordinate with on-site officers.
• Route emergency calls, follow protocols, and inform the Shift Manager of incidents.
• Maintain visitor and campus security, report concerns, manage crowd control, and assist during emergencies.
• Lead evacuations and relocation efforts and participate in the Safety Warden program.
• Maintain accuracy and adherence to the Standards and Expectations manual.
• Stay informed about daily operations, way-finding, and emergency procedures.
• Represent Security during events such as garage or dock duties as assigned.
