Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care’s Department of Pathology seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician for a 3rd shift (Sun-Thu 11:00 PM–7:30 AM) with potential holiday/weekend/on-call coverage. A sign-on incentive of $5,000 may apply based on experience.

Applicants should indicate MLS or MLT level at submission. Responsibilities include blood processing, component dispensing, records, ABO/Rh testing, and transfusion testing integrations.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology program from an accredited institution.
MLT eligibility from ASCP or NCA, or military training equivalent is acceptable.
MLS certification or MT certification may be required depending on level.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
ASCP or NCA certification is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Receive blood samples and process incoming blood shipments.
Dispense and return blood components.
Keep records of all transactions.
Perform ABO/Rh antibody screening and identification tests.
Perform compatibility testing using pre-transfusion protocols.
Contribute to other projects and tasks as assigned.
