Job summary

UPMC Senior Communities is seeking a full-time Medical Lab Technician or Medical Lab Scientist for the Automated Testing Lab in Pittsburgh, PA. Work night shifts (10:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.) with rotating weekends/holidays.

Eligible for a Night Program after 6 months, adding $2.00/hr shift differential. Starting salary for Medical Lab Scientist is commensurate with education and experience, with a sign-on bonus up to $15,000 for qualified applicants.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in a biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science and eligibility/certification per ASCP or CAHEA guidelines.
ASCP certification or eligible demonstrated by degree path and clinical lab experience.
Minimum hospital laboratory experience preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology and LIS/quality systems.

Responsibilities

Follow established procedures for collection and processing of specimens for analysis including phlebotomy as required.
Perform qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures accurately and timely.
Identify and report critical/abnormal results and take corrective action per protocol.
Maintain instrument performance, perform QC, calibration, and minor repairs.
Enter patient data into LIS and ensure sample integrity throughout testing.
Perform moderately complex to high complexity testing under supervision as required.
