Job summary

Shasta Regional Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, seeks an experienced laboratory supervisor for night shift. You will lead daily operations across hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and more while ensuring accuracy and compliance.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological science or MLT, an active CLS license, and typically five years of hospital lab experience.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising hospital laboratory operations.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements.
• Ability to assess staff competency and provide evaluations.
• Familiarity with lab safety, infection control and LIS/POC systems.

Responsibilities

• Functions as department supervisor or lead for daily operations.
• Provide consultative services to medical staff as Technical Consultant.
• Oversee performance improvement programs and cross-department initiatives.
• Manage technical and fiscal aspects of sections and labs.
• Oversee quality management/assurance programs and document results.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and accreditation readiness.
• Evaluate staff performance and ensure timely appraisals.
• Verify accuracy of test results before reporting to clients.
• Develop and maintain section policies and procedures.
• Review QC results and document corrective actions.
• Identify test performance issues and notify Director/Medical Director.
• Perform routine and specialized lab procedures across disciplines.
• Ensure regular equipment maintenance documentation.
• Recognize age-related differences in test results from newborns to geriatrics.
• Ensure proficiency testing samples are properly handled and reported.
• Maintain current laboratory policies and procedures.
• Adhere to safety, infection control, and emergency preparedness policies.
• May handle LIS and/or point-of-care responsibilities.
