Job summary

West Anaheim Medical Center, part of Prime Healthcare, is seeking a laboratory department leader to supervise daily operations, provide technical consultation, and drive quality and compliance across hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, and related disciplines.

The role requires an ASCP certification, 5+ years hospital lab experience, and a relevant bachelor's degree with state licensure where required. Evening shift; competitive benefits and Total Rewards package.

Qualifications

• ASCP certification, or equivalent, required.
• Minimum five years of hospital laboratory work experience required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489).
• Current and Valid State License if the laboratory is located in a state where required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily operation of the section(s) and lead the department.
• Provide consultative services to the medical staff as Technical Consultant.
• Oversee performance improvement programs and participate in hospital initiatives.
• Manage technical and fiscal aspects of the section(s).
• Oversee quality management/assurance and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Ensure staff competency and timely performance evaluations.
• Verify accuracy of patient results prior to reporting.
• Develop and update section policies and procedures.
• Review quality control and document corrective actions for deviations.
• Identify problems affecting test performance and notify leadership.
• Perform diverse laboratory procedures across hematology, blood bank, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, microbiology, immunology.
• Ensure maintenance of equipment and proper documentation.
• Recognize age-specific reference ranges from newborns to geriatrics.
• Ensure proficiency testing samples follow proper reporting to agencies.
• Keep laboratory policies current and compliant with safety and HR policies.
• Potential LIS and/or POC responsibilities as assigned.
• Other tasks may be assigned by department manager/director.
