Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking a Laboratory Technologist for the Night Lab on a part-time basis. The role requires a BS in Medical Technology with clinical internship or an equivalent from a related discipline with supervised clinical lab experience, and NYS licensure or eligibility.

The candidate will perform tests, ensure quality control, and work in a high-volume, high-pressure clinical setting.

Qualifications

• BS in Medical Technology with clinical internship or BS in a related discipline with one year supervised clinical laboratory experience.
• NYS Education Department Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or Eligible.
• Professional accreditation preferred.
• Analytical skills necessary to analyze data and perform mathematical calculations.
• Basic knowledge of computer fundamentals and experience with laboratory information systems.
• Technical skills to operate, maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation and perform testing.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Performs supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Performs all preventive maintenance on schedule in accordance with laboratory procedure.
• Recognizes abnormal instrument or test performance and does not release patient results until the situation is corrected.
• Performs basic troubleshooting procedures and seeks assistance when necessary.
• Monitors reagent and supply inventory and informs supervisor of needs.
• Works effectively in high-pressure situations and maintains accuracy with high volume work.
• Organizes work so others can easily assist or take over.
• Verifies and processes specimens in an organized and timely manner.
• Can perform phlebotomy when required with expertise.
• Follows all procedures accurately and performs test procedures.
