Job summary

OU Health is seeking a Lab Phlebotomist for a part-time night shift (Tues/Wed 2300-0930) in the OUMC Clinical Pathology Lab in Oklahoma City. The role involves performing advanced phlebotomy procedures, specimen labeling, patient registration, and data entry with strict adherence to safety and HIPAA policies.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, completion of a phlebotomy training course, and 1–5 years of experience (depending on level), plus BLS certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; completion of a phlebotomy training course or on-the-job training.
• Level 1: 1–3 years phlebotomy experience.
• Level 2: 3–5 years phlebotomy experience; current phlebotomy certification.
• Current Basic Life Support (AHA) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine phlebotomy procedures, drawing blood samples for laboratory analysis as ordered by physicians.
• Ensures properly identified and labeled specimens following procedures and policies.
• Registers patients, orders tests, verifies completeness of orders and billing information.
• Enters patient demographic data and tests into the laboratory computer system.
• Prepares specimens for transport to the lab and ensures prompt delivery for analysis.
• Maintains accurate records and documents; follows hospital and lab safety policies including PPE usage.
• Completes annual competency assessment and engages in ongoing professional development.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
