Job summary

FedEx Freight in Joliet, IL is seeking a dock associate to transport freight across the dock area to and from trailers. You will handle freight with equipment like forklifts and pallet jacks, verify documents, and secure loads for safe trailer transfer.

The role requires basic math, clear written and spoken communication, and the ability to lift and move heavy items regularly. It offers varied hours and a focus on safety and accuracy in daily tasks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Prior warehousing, freight handling and/or forklift experience preferred.
• If hostler/yard mule duties required, experience preferred.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight of varying weights several times a week, up to ~100 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Perform freight handling using forklift, pallet jack and hand truck.
• Verify freight documentation matches description (type, weight, hazardous materials).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps or rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Assist customers with freight and freight documentation as needed.
• Perform hostling duties if required.
