Job summary

TRS Staffing Solutions is assisting a plastics manufacturer in Early Branch, SC, to recruit an Extrusion Operator – Shift Head for a 6pm–6am night shift. You will lead shift personnel, ensure continuous pipe production, and collaborate with production management, pipe yard operations, and quality teams.

The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, quality focus, and the ability to start up and troubleshoot extrusion lines while maintaining safety and efficiency on a fast-paced production floor.

Qualifications

• Experience in a continuous manufacturing environment.
• Experience with setup, troubleshooting, tear downs and changeovers.
• Ability to follow standards, rules, and work instructions.
• Ability to operate extrusion equipment and understand mechanical systems.
• Appreciation for producing premium quality products.
• Quality focus and attention to detail.
• Capable of using measuring equipment accurately.
• Forklift license or experience.
• Strong math and basic computer skills.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced plant.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to follow schedules.
• Energetic, punctual, reliable, and a team player or independent.
• Good communication skills with others on shift.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Managing and organizing shift production personnel under their supervision.
• Communicate effectively with pipe yard personnel during pipe production.
• Maintaining and operating plastic extrusion machinery.
• Handling raw material for extrusion operations.
• Setting up tools and calibrators.
• Starting up various profiles, ensuring start-up procedures are followed.
• Check the entire extruder before starting up to ensure no tools are left on the table.
• Making minor adjustments to equipment.
• Inspecting the line for quality products and early identification of issues.
• Communicating to production supervisor on maintenance, scrap, and shift change reports.
• Maintaining a clean work environment.
• Troubleshooting when issues arise.
• Tagging tools when removed to a line to indicate if maintenance is required.
• Continuous learning.
