Job summary

HII's Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking an Engineering Manager 2 to lead a multi-disciplinary team of engineers in supporting the construction of Reactor and Propulsion Plants, and provide waterfront support for Carrier Construction, Virginia Class Submarines, and Columbia. Manage resources, emergent issues, and night-shift activities to ensure timely, on-budget delivery.

The role requires a Bachelor's in engineering (ABET) with 5+ years’ relevant experience, or a Master’s with 4+ years.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field; ABET accreditation required.
• Minimum 5 years in construction engineering with reactor/propulsion focus.
• Proven experience in leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary group of engineers across mechanical, electrical, and structural disciplines.
• Coordinate engineering resources for work extending into the night shift.
• Address emergent issues and implement effective solutions.
• Manage planned work to meet time, budget, and quality targets.
• Interface with construction, production, test, planning, and material teams.
• Monitor performance, provide guidance, and train the team as needed.
• Develop strategies to improve efficiency and overall performance.
• Prepare progress reports and project updates for senior management.
