Job summary

UPMC Altoona is seeking an RN Staff Nurse for the Emergency Department on a .9 full-time night shift schedule with weekend rotations and holiday rotation. Typical hours are 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM (36 hours/week) with SEIU union; candidates may be current students entering the program with adjustments for graduate status.

Starting pay reflects nursing education and experience, with BSN at $35.50/hour and non-BSN at $34.00/hour, plus a $15,000 sign-on bonus and loan repayment options for graduates.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current license to practice nursing in the State of Pennsylvania.
• Must satisfactorily complete the Nursing Department's orientation program and probationary period.
• CPR required based on AHA standards including didactic and skills within 30 days of hire.
• Must obtain one of eight certifications within two years of hire/transfer: CCRN, or other listed certs.
• ACLS, BLS or CPR, NIH Stroke Scale, PALS, RN license, Act 33/34/73 renewals.

Responsibilities

• Provide Direct Care: administer medications and IV therapy per policy.
• Assess and Reassess: evaluate patient and family needs; reassess every eight hours or as needed.
• Plan Care: involve patients and families in care plans; coordinate with professionals.
• Engage in Team Discussions: work with medical staff to develop patient plans.
• Utilize Systems: use Bed Management System, Alpha, CPOE, and other systems.
• Teach and Educate: health teaching; contribute to staff and student education.
• Consult and Lead: provide guidance to healthcare team; maintain professionalism.
• Follow Precautions: adhere to universal precautions and exposure policies.
• Maintain Competency: annual competency validation; stay proficient in point-of-care testing.
