Job summary

Labcorp in RTP, NC is seeking a Cytogenetics Technologist Trainee to join our clinical laboratory team. The role supports tissue culture, karyotyping and FISH procedures, with training provided for new grads.

Work schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 4:00pm–12:30am. Ideal candidates have a biology/chemical science degree and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced lab environment at Labcorp.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
• 3 months or more of clinical laboratory testing experience.
• ASCP or AMT certification.
• New grads welcome; full training provided.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems.
• High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills.
• Flexible to work overtime or other shifts.

Responsibilities

• Perform tissue culture, harvesting, slide making and banding, automated karyotyping, reagent preparation, and FISH processing.
• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
• Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
• Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
• Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
