Sylvania in Winnetka is seeking a 3rd Shift Custodian for a 12-month assignment, 10:30 pm to 7:00 am, at Winnetka Campus.

The role involves cleaning, sanitizing restrooms, floors, and windows, operating custodial equipment, moving supplies, and assisting with events as needed. Starting rate is $21.84 per hour; non-exempt; favorable for flexible snow removal duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent experience.
• Experience in custodial or related field preferred.
• Physical ability to perform all essential custodial duties requiring bending, walking, standing, stooping, carrying, reaching, moving items, climbing stairs or ladders, kneeling, and lifting; ability to perform manual work including dumping large bags into dumpster or transporting supplies, furniture, or equipment.
• Ability to regularly lift and handle items weighing at least fifty pounds, occasionally more.

Responsabilités

• Maintains classrooms, offices, restrooms, corridors, and laboratories by cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and floors.
• Washes interior and exterior windows and cleans surfaces.
• Moves furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed.
• Performs snow removal and related duties when required.
• Safely operates cleaning equipment and handles chemicals per procedures.
• Assists with events and classrooms setup as needed.
• Enforces campus policies and reports safety concerns.

Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:

1. Knowledge of proper and safe use of custodial equipment, chemicals, tools, etc.
2. Knowledge of procedures related to building safety, and knowledge of normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting rooms and libraries.
3. Ability to operate job-related equipment such as vacuum, floor scrubber, and polisher.
4. Ability to organize workflow to meet daily schedule, in a service-oriented environment with changing priorities and interruptions.
5. Ability to follow through and carry out assignments, providing pleasant, efficient, and discreet service to the campus.
6. Ability to effectively communicate and follow oral instructions in English preferred.
7. Ability to effectively read written instructions, read manuals, signs and product labels in English preferred.
8. Ability to maintain acceptable work habits, punctuality, and regularity of attendance, arrive at and leave work on time, observe lunch and break periods.
9. Ability to work flexible hours to participate in snow removal activities or other overtime activities.
10. Sufficient interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with staff and diverse campus constituencies.

Position Expectations:

• Maintains classrooms, offices, restrooms, corridors, and laboratories by:
• • Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures.
  • Cleaning and maintaining floors, walls, carpets, furniture, fixtures, and window treatments.
  • Washing accessible interior and exterior windows.
  • Moving furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools on an incidental basis.
  • Performing cleaning and related activities such as removing snow and debris from sidewalks and stairs using hand-operated tools or small power equipment.
• Emptying and maintaining recycling materials.
• Maintains assigned power equipment and hand tools such as buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high-pressure washers, high-speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, rags, mops, and squeegees.
• Follows instructions in using chemicals and supplies properly.
• Safely operates all vehicles and other job-related equipment.
• Assists with set-up of building facilities for events and classes as needed.
• Safeguards keys issued which are necessary for assigned areas.
• Locks and unlocks assigned buildings; secures building when facilities are not in use, checking for unlocked doors and windows, reports any unauthorized occupants, turns off lights.
• Attends to emergencies when necessary.
• Attends safety and other related meetings.
• Takes classes as required in cleaning methods and techniques, new products, first aid, CPR, and working relationships.
• Calls in work orders for all areas that need attention (i.e., light bulbs out, ceiling tiles need replacement, door latch problems, window blinds not functioning properly, broken windows, etc.).
• Assists in the instruction and supervision of student help.
• Assists with inventory control and security.
• Enforces and supports policies established by the Director of Physical Plant Services
• Assists with traffic duties as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
