Job summary

Dallas Regional Medical Center is seeking a Per Diem Laboratory Technician for night shifts in the Clinical Lab. The role involves a wide range of lab duties across multiple disciplines, with 10-hour night shifts and as-needed scheduling.

Qualifications include ASCP certification and a bachelor’s degree in a related field; a state license may be required. Prior hospital lab experience is preferred but not mandatory, with opportunities to lead the section during shifts.

Qualifications

• ASCP certification preferred.
• One year hospital laboratory work experience preferred, but not required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution (or CLIA equivalent).
• Current and valid state license if required by the state.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis and reporting of patient test results.
• Follow quality control policies and document corrective actions when tests deviate from specifications.
• Identify problems that may affect test performance and alert supervisor or Medical Director as needed.
• Perform a wide range of lab procedures in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology and related disciplines.
• Perform maintenance on instruments and equipment as needed and document it.
• Review the accuracy of patient results prior to reporting.
• Recognize age-specific differences from newborns to geriatrics.
• Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested consistently with patient samples and do not involve cross-lab collaboration before reporting results.
• May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups.
• Assist in development and maintenance of lab policies and procedures.
• Adhere to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness and HR policies; Lead Tech duties may be assigned in supervisor’s absence.
• May have responsibilities related to point-of-care testing (POCT).
• Other tasks may be assigned by department manager/director.
